1. Stresses the importance of the flagship initiative Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion; invites the Member States to make full use of the EU PROGRESS programme and the upcoming Programme for Social Change and Innovation, especially with regard to the effective implementation of gender equality objectives; stresses the importance of the Daphne III programme, especially with regard to the protection of women against all forms of violence and to attain a high level of health protection, well-being and social cohesion; calls on the Member States to take the necessary actions to access the European Social Fund and to utilise the funds for targeted programmes against poverty;
