Insists on a reconsideration of the issue of limitingthe urgent need for enforcement of existing legislation on the transport time of animals destined for slaughter to eight hours, with some exceptions based on geographicin order to improve transport conditions, and the option of longer transporto prevent distortions of scome animal species confirmed by scientific research results, provided that the rules on animal welfare are complied withpetition within the EU;

Welcomes the improvement in the quality of animal transport, but believes that the Commission findings referred to above are based on the results of surveys carried out among slaughterhouses and business and transport enterprises engaged in the transportation of live animals. The results of the surveynvestments made by the industry in order to improve the quality of production, transport and animal slaughter systems throughout the Member States; also notes that, because significant investments carried out by the Commissione necessary, many therefore not fully reflect the actual state of affairssmallholdings and small abattoirs have disappeared;

Welcomes the fact that in its report the Commission used the scientific research presented by the EFSA, which highlights the need to significantly reduce the length of transport time for horses, which correlates with the suggestions advanced in Parliament’s Written Declaration of 25 February 2010shows that the wellbeing of animals during transport is affected more by density of occupation, straw, food, water and ventilation than by length of transport time;
