Highlights that for this purpose it will be necessary to increase the use of electro-mobility and alternative fuels, as road transport is responsible for one fifth of EU emissions, and this figure is increasing; underlines the need to reduce the gap between stated decarbonisation targets and real on-road emissions; stresses that a cross-sectoral effort is required to accelerate investment in alternative fuel infrastructure, which is a precondition for the wider uptake and deployment of alternatively powered vehicles;

Underlines that, according to WHO figures, road transport contributes to air and noise pollution, with a negative impact on citizens’ health, especially in urban areas; encourages the implementation of an effective strategy to reduce the level of pollutants such as NOx, NO2 and particulate matter and reiterates the need to support investments in innovative, low– emission and shared mobility in urban areas;
