23. Notes with concern the decline in turnout in the 2014 European elections to 42,54 % (2009: 43 %), in spite of the considerable efforts made to reinforce Parliament's institutional election campaign, which cost EUR 17 800 000 over the period 2013 to 2014; encourages the Parliament to adopt a new strategy aiming at increasing the attractiveness of the European elections in the Member States;

Stresses that Members must be more transparent about the on-the-side activities they do while in public office; recalls, however, that Members, similarly to Members of national parliaments, do not have an exclusive mandate and may therefore exercise other professional activities; is of the opinion that a more comprehensive declaration template for Members publicly available online in a digital form would help to increase transparency and accountability and avoid potential conflicts of interests;
