Considers that the EU should support education and awareness-raising about nutrition, given that informed choices about diet can prevent disease and also reduce the heavy strain on social spending in Europe; also calls for more dietary support programmes, such as the School Fruit and School Milk programmes, and for the budgets for these programmes to be increased; which must not, however, entail a disproportionate amount of administration, and for the budgets for these programmes to be increased, while at the same time both the existing and new measures should be assessed, particularly from the point of view of their practicability;

Stresses the need for fairness in the CAP, which should ensure a balanced distribution of support to farmers from all Member States, greater territorial cohesion, and the phasing-out of export subsidies, in accordance with a WTO agreement; recognises that the European Union has already substantially reduced its export subsidies, thus making a significant contribution to fairer world trade;
