Recognises the importance of the ‘ICT and tourism’ platform proposed by the Commission, but believes that greater efforts are needed to equip rural areas with the latest IT infrastructure (e.g. broadband Internet connection services), with a view to generating and putting online all the information required for the exchange of best practice;

17. Asks the Commission to promote a specific initiative to harmonise gradually the accommodation classification systems through the identification of common minimum criteria, which undertakings can apply voluntarily, bearing in mind the positive results of earlier experiments by industry associations and working in close collaboration with standardisation bodies;
