1. Welcomes the fact that, following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty, the Commission drew up a tourism strategy to maintain Europe’s status as the world’s No 1 tourist destination and tourism as the third largest socio-economic activity; also welcomes the subsequent agenda for sustainable European tourism, which recalls that rural areas invest in tourism in order to diversify their economies and increase their added value. So long as it is closely linked to agricultural activity, this activity contributes significantly to safeguarding small-scale and diverse farming;

2. Emphasises that agrotourism makes a significant contribution to the rural economy, represents an important additional source of income for many farms and offers a wide range of opportunities to maintain the attractiveness of rural areas and create jobs;(Does not affect the English version)
