Notes that gender disparity continues to exist in European education systems today despite the policies that have now been implemented by almost all countries to combat it, and that such situations determine both performance at school as well as choices regarding study courses and professions, and have a negative effect on economic growth and on the welfare state;

Recalls that, in all Member States, there are still very few initiatives in place aimed at providing information about gender equality and at promoting gender equality in education; suggests that it is appropriate for teachers to receive specific training regarding equality between men and women;
