- Honorary President of the PR (Republican Party) since 1978 and member of the Council of the UDF (Union for French Democracy). Secretary-General 1967-1973 and Chairman 1975-1978 of the Independent Republicans.
- Mayor of l'Isle-Adam (Val-d'Oise) since 1971. Deputy for the Val-d'Oise 1967-1974; Minister for Health and Social Security 1973-1974; Minister of State, Minister of the Interior 1974-1977.
- Roving ambassador, personal representative of the President of the Republic 1977-1979.
- Held various important posts (1955-1958) in the private office of M. Pflimlin (Minister of Finance and then Prime Minister) and at the Ministry of Finance 1956-1963. Several times director of M. Giscard d'Estaing's private office (State Secretary for Finance, 1959; Minister of Finance 1962 and 1963).
- Chairman of the EP Committee on Development and Cooperation.
- Author of approximately fifteen literary, historical and political works.
- Holder of several French and foreign decorations.
