  • Graduate of Dental School (University of Athens, 1975); graduate of Medical School (University of Athens, 1978); postgraduate studies (Tavistock Clinic, 1981, and University of Nottingham, 1985); specialised in psychiatry (1984); doctorate (University of Athens, 1989). Lecturer (Medical School, University of Athens, 1989). President of the Organisation against Drugs (OKANA).
  • Adviser to the Mental Health Section and expert of the WHO on Mental Health Issues, Drugs and AIDS (since 1987). Has been, or is currently, national representative in numerous groups of experts (EU drug addiction programme, the Pompidou Group of the Council of Europe, etc.) and numerous bodies (Governing Body of European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction, Second and Third Week against Drug Addiction, etc.). National Coordinator for the European Network 'Health in Prisons' (since 1997).
  • Member of the Board of the Council of the Special Infection Monitoring Centre (KEEL) (1994-1998); member of the Board of the Council of the Research Centre on Issues of Equality (1996-1998). Author of numerous scientific publications in international and Greek medical journals and papers given at scientific congresses. Played an active role in the struggle against the dictatorship in Greece and was arrested by the security forces.
