  • Member of the Second Chamber of the States-General, with brief interruptions, since 1963. State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence 1973-1974.
  • At present C.D.A group coordinator for policy on foreign affairs, defence and development cooperation. Member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and the Assembly of Western European Union.
  • Former member of the National Consultative Council for Development Cooperation, the Netherlands Press Council and the Government Commission on Defence. Former member of the UN Commission on Human Rights and the North Atlantic Assembly. Chairman of the Government Commission on Recruitment to the Armed Forces 1975-1978. Member of the former nominated European Parliament.
  • Knight of the Order of the Netherlands Lion.
